Midwifery care offers a different, more personal approach to pregnancy and childbirth than contemporary obstetrics. It focuses on nurturing, hands-on support before, during, and after birth. Midwives specialize in normal pregnancy and birth and take the time to build trusting relationships with the families they serve-helping create an environment where labor and birth can feel confident, supported, and safe. Midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, guide labor and birth, recognize and address complications, and care for healthy newborns.
We see birth not as a medical event, but as a natural and meaningful part of life. We believe women carry an innate, even sacred ability to birth their babies in the way that feels right for them. Our role as midwives is to support women who desire a physiologic home birth by helping them connect with their intuition and deep knowing as they envision and prepare for the birth that best suits them and their babies.
Birth, like motherhood, is a journey into the unknown. Along the way, we strive to be guides, mentors, and compassionate, non-judgemental listeners for the mothers and families we serve. A joyful pregnancy and empowering birth experience are most likely when a mother feels well supported-physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Holistic care includes attentive, skilled, and evidence-based support, creating a warm and caring environment, minimizing unnecessary interventions, providing thorough education, and above all, respecting each woman's right to make decisions about her own care.
We believe every woman has the right to choose where she gives birth and who is present to support her. As traditional midwives, we value the freedom to serve families in a way that honors their needs and choices. We love working with women who are excited to learn about caring for themselves during pregnancy, who want to understand the birth process, and who hope to build a deep connection with themselves and their babies as they prepare for postpartum life.
Our prenatal visits are unhurried-usually about one to two hours long-and relaxed, informal, and guided by the mother's needs and questions. Prenatal visits take place in one of our homes in Williston, while postpartum visits are usually in the comfort of the mother's own home. Each visit is tailored to what the mother (and her partner, if present) needs in that moment. We provide personalized, hands-on care throughout pregnancy, continuous in-person support during active labor and birth, and postpartum and newborn care for up to eight weeks after the baby arrives. Nothing is mandatory. We take time to explain available options-tests, procedures, and labs-so each mother can decide what feels right for her.
We practice a "power with" model of care: we bring our knowledge of birth and mothering, along with our intuition, while the mother is the expert on herself, her baby, and what is best for her family. Together, we build a partnership that supports a strong, meaningful birth experience and a loving beginning to the journey of motherhood.
